T4.2: Model Selection and Customization (M5-M9):

Lead: NIAB
Contributors: AGCL, UMA

Identify the most suitable ML/DL models and tools for various recommendation types in domains like computer vision, geospatial analytics, agent-based simulation, and time-series forecasting. UMA will guide model selection based on the structure and features of knowledge bases. Initial benchmarking will be done by UMA, and NIAB will collaborate with domain experts to refine the models. CSIC will advise on techniques to maximize model generalization, and standardized evaluation protocols will be established.

T 4.3: Recommendation System Training (M9-M36):

Contributors: NIAB, UMA

Train models on prepared data and optimize them for recommendations in domains such as irrigation, pest management, and carbon sequestration. NIAB will define the model training process, and UMA will work closely with AGCL to input structured training datasets. Multimodal datasets, including drone imagery, satellite data, and sensors, will be used for training. AGCL will select and preserve the best-performing model pipelines for each recommendation type.

T 4.4: User Interface Development (M9-M12):

Develop intuitive interfaces for the field deployment of AI systems. This involves creating user interfaces that are user-friendly and suitable for practical use.

T 4.5: External System Integration (M12-M16):

Lead: UMA
Contributors: DGF

Enable connection to proprietary farm management platforms through open APIs. DGF will design and implement flexible REST APIs with input/output schemas. UMA will use these APIs internally to connect AI systems to their farm management platform. DGF will collaborate with major software platforms to integrate API access, allowing activation of GAINS recommendations within farmer interfaces. In parallel, UMA will create software development kits (SDKs).
